Each day, there are multiple personal grooming activities that you engage in. From shaving to exfoliating, these tasks all contribute to proper hygiene and looking your best. If you regularly wear your wedding ring, there are certain grooming tasks that you might want to think about removing your ring for. It will help protect your ring.

Showering

When you get ready for a shower, you’ll want to remove your ring and put it in a ring dish. This will protect your jewelry from harsh soaps and cleansers. Lavalier explains how showers are a common way to lose your ring with all that soap and water. Never take your ring off in the middle of a shower and attempt to put it somewhere safe in the shower. This could easily result in your ring getting bumped into the shower and going down the drain. If you’re completing personal grooming activities, you might be near a sink or toilet. The last thing that you want to do is drop your ring down one of these drains. If you do end up losing the ring, you can try to take the pipe apart yourself. You could also have a plumber come to check the drain pipe for you.

Using Body Moisturizers

Enso Rings points out that lotions and creams can leave a buildup of residue on your ring which can dull or even damage it. If you have a ring dish nearby, you should remove your ring before pouring lotion or cream on your hands. Give the moisturizer a few minutes to soak in, and then you can replace the ring you took off. If you have a ring with a diamond in it, the lotion can quickly build up underneath the diamond and it will appear cloudy. Even some jewelry cleaners can’t remove that buildup without you using a brush or cloth to clean it physically.

Facial Treatments

You can buy all kinds of face masks and scrubs to treat a variety of skin conditions. While these products are great for your skin, they don’t work so well with your jewelry. These products can get built up on your ring. Even with soap and water, it can be really hard to get the product off. WeddingWire says that gritty scrubs can scratch your ring and abrasive chemicals can even discolor it. It is best to take off the rings before you start your morning and night cleansing routines so that your jewelry can stay brilliant.

It’s easier to take your ring off than it is to spend time cleaning it. If you know you’re going to be using some sort of product that could harm your jewelry, take your ring off and leave it nearby. Just make sure you get in the habit of retrieving it when you’re done.
